Roark Bluff steals the show early on, and the whole trip feels like a postcard brought to life. It typically takes 4–6 hours depending on water levels and how often you stop to swim or explore. This stretch is popular, so we recommend starting early, especially on weekends, to snag parking and beat the crowds.
Kyle’s Landing to Pruitt
Stretching about 10 miles, this float takes 5–7 hours and offers a quieter, more peaceful experience. The river winds through narrow valleys with plenty of shaded spots and gravel bars to pull off and relax. It’s great for a full-day adventure and has some excellent fishing along the way. Be sure to check river conditions before heading out, as water levels can vary.
Ozark to Pruitt
At just under 6 miles, this is a perfect half-day float—usually taking 2–4 hours depending on how often you stop to soak it all in. This section features gentle currents, beautiful bluff views, and the historic Ozark Bridge. It’s ideal for families, beginners, or anyone looking for a laid-back paddle without committing to a full day on the water.
Pruitt to Hasty
This 7.4-mile stretch from Pruitt to Hasty is a great half-day float, typically taking 3–5 hours depending on water levels. It’s a peaceful and scenic section of the river, with gentle currents, tall
bluffs, and a good mix of shade and sun along the way. You’ll find several gravel bars that are perfect for pulling over to relax, snack, or swim. It’s an ideal route for those wanting a slower-paced float without the crowds often found on the upper stretches. Great for families, fishing, or anyone just wanting to soak in the natural beauty of the Buffalo.
Parthenon to Jasper (Little Buffalo River)
This 7-mile float from just past the low-water bridge in Parthenon to Bradley Park in Jasper offers a peaceful and scenic paddle through one of Newton County’s hidden gems. The Little Buffalo River winds gently through quiet stretches of water, shallow gravel bars, and wooded banks that feel far off the beaten path. While it's generally a calm float, water levels can vary depending on recent rainfall, so be sure to check conditions before heading out.
